Therapy Philosophy
At Authentically You Family Therapy, we believe healing happens within safe, attuned relationships. Therapy is not about becoming someone new — it is about reconnecting with the parts of yourself that may have been silenced, neglected, overwhelmed, or lost beneath responsibility, survival, and expectation.
We approach therapy collaboratively and relationally, honoring each client as the authority on her own lived experience. Care is individualized, culturally responsive, and grounded in compassion, emotional safety, and authenticity. Krista integrates traditional talk therapy with mindfulness, nervous system awareness, and optional art therapy interventions to support deeper emotional processing and self-understanding.
No art experience is ever required. Art therapy is simply offered as another pathway for expression when words alone feel difficult or incomplete. The practice values depth over quick fixes, connection over performance, and meaningful healing oversimply managing symptoms.
When Words Aren’t Enough
Sometimes emotions, experiences, and life transitions can feel difficult to fully explain with words alone.
Krista gently integrates optional art therapy and creative expression for clients who may feel emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck, or unsure how to fully express what they are carrying internally.
Creative expression can provide another pathway for reflection, emotional processing, insight, nervous system regulation, and healing — especially during seasons of pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood, grief, identity shifts, or major life transitions.
No artistic experience is ever required. Art therapy is always offered collaboratively, at your comfort level, and as an invitation rather than an expectation.
Sessions are thoughtfully designed with the realities of postpartum life in mind and may include simple, supportive art-based exercises that can be engaged while holding, feeding, or soothing an infant during session when needed.
Culturally Responsive & Emotionally Attuned Care
Krista recognizes that reproductive and maternal mental health experiences are shaped not only by emotional and relational changes, but also by culture, identity, lived experience, and systemic stressors.
Some women — particularly Black women and women of color — may carry additional layers of stress related to feeling unheard, dismissed, or emotionally unsupported within healthcare or other systems of care, even while appearing high-functioning externally.
Therapy offers a space where clients can process these experiences with compassion, emotional safety, cultural awareness, and care that honors the complexity of their lived experience.
